Nature Guides
Our dependence on technology, as good as technology has been for humanity, has created a separation from seeing and feeling the natural world around us. There is an entire world calling to us, waiting for us to connect. To create more balance in our lives, it is imperative to begin connecting with nature.
You no doubt have heard the expression ‘Everything is Energy’. That means that every tree, flower, and rock has an energy, a vibration of its own. When we quiet our minds, we can then begin to learn how to communicate with our natural world.
It’s also important to know that there are nature spirits here supporting everything in nature. Gnomes are here supporting the growth of trees, fairies work with the flowers, and water nymphs work with water. Every aspect of nature has some kind of nature spirit supporting it. They inhabit and personify the natural elements of plants, rocks, wind, water, and forests and are uniquely interconnected with all aspects of nature. Without them, we would not be able to survive as a species.
Over thousands of years, we have lost our connection with nature spirits. However, there are still groups and places on our planet that have maintained a strong relationship with them. Indigenous peoples are among the most connected with Mother Earth and the nature spirits as well as some cultures around the world. Ireland is a place best known for its connection with nature spirits such as fairies and leprechauns.
So how do we begin to regain our connection with our nature guides? To begin connecting with them, we first need to quiet our mind and calm our emotions. It involves ‘tuning into’ the environment and becoming aware of subtle messages. It takes a ‘listening ear’ to begin opening up to the messages of nature.
One of the things I like to do is something called ‘tree hugging’. But instead of wrapping my arms around the tree, I sit on the ground with my spine against the tree trunk. I consciously connect with the tree through my heart and I allow myself to feel the energy of the tree. Once I feel the energy of the tree, I then direct my attention to the gnomes who are supporting the tree. I send gratitude to both the tree and the gnomes for taking care of it and every time I do, I receive a response from both the tree and the gnomes. It's important to connect through your heart when connecting with nature and nature guides. When connecting through your heart, you are more able to pick up on the subtle messages they are sending.
One of my first experiences with communicating with nature involved communicating with ants. It was 2005 and my husband and I had planted a tomato garden. One day, as my husband was watering the garden, he noticed red ants had moved into the garden. My husband was ready to drown them, but before he did, he asked me if I could talk to them and ask them to move.
I knelt on the ground, went to my heart, and created a connection with them. I told them what would happen to them if they stayed in the garden and directed them to a place over by some trees. To both mine and my husband’s amazement, the ants started turning around, left the garden and headed over to the trees. Since then, I have communicated with many other insects and animals, directing them to a safer place to be.
We cannot always see nature spirits but by starting a dialogue with the animals and insects around us, it will begin opening the door to communicating with the nature spirits who are working with them. We can develop personal relationships with all of nature around us and when we do, our world expands and will begin to remember the importance of balance and the value of living in harmony with the earth.
In 2024, I created a program with Learning Strategies called ‘How to Meet a Fairy’. Through the information and the meditations, this program will take you deeper into learning how to connect with your nature guides and with Mother Earth.
